It's important for adults to have eye exams on a regular basis to check for problems. Regular eye exams are critical for detecting:

  • Glaucoma
  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
  • Cataracts
  • Diabetic retinopathy
But everyone needs regular eye exams.

This is particularly important if you have risk factors or a family history of eye problems. Children need their vision checked at 6 months, 3 years, and before first grade. These exams should be done during preventative pediatrician visits and with a pre school eye screening. Adults should see an eye doctor at least every two years and annually after age 60.

Your doctor may recommend more frequent exams if you have a health condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure, work in a visually demanding job, or take medications that can affect eyesight.

Optomap Retinal Exam

The optomap exam is fast, painless and comfortable. Nothing touches your eye at any time. It is suitable for the whole family. To have the exam, you simply look into the device one eye at a time (like looking through a keyhole) and you will see a comfortable flash of light to let you know the image of your retina has been taken.

Under normal circumstances, dilation drops might not be necessary, but your eye care practioner will decide if your pupils need to be dilated depending on your conditions. The capture takes less than a second. Images are available immediately for review. You can see your own retina. You see exactly what your eye care practioner sees - even in a 3D animation.

Contact lenses are very convenient and, with the latest advancements in technology, they are extremely comfortable. Most of the time you will hardly know you are wearing them though you will certainly notice how clear and accurate your vision is. Many patients choose contact lenses for their primary vision correction and glasses as a backup option. We recommend always having an updated pair of eyeglasses to wear in conjunction with contact lenses. This permits your eyes to rest from contact lens wear, permitting you to best meet your overall lifestyle needs while protecting the integrity of your overall eye health.

There are many types of contact lenses available including 1-Day Disposable Lenses, Frequent Replacement Lenses, Multifocal lenses and Disposable Colored Lenses. Your doctor can recommend the best contact lenses for you based on a complete eye examination and a review of your visual needs both at work and play. .

Just as sunblock protects your skin from harmful UV rays, so do sunglasses protect your eyes. We recommend you invest in a set of quality sunglasses which can provide at least 98% protection from UVA and UVB rays. While cheaper sunglasses can range from poor to excellent UV protection, our sunglass lines provide the best protection from the sun. We carry a large selection of brands, styles and colors including Oakley, Maui Jim, and Ray Ban.

Another product to consider is a pair of polarized sunglasses. Polarized lenses block light reflected from surfaces such as a flat road or smooth water. If you are involved in activities such as water sports, skiing, golfing, biking, fishing and even driving, polarized lenses can be very helpful in reducing glare.
